49th Algonquian Conference

The 49th Algonquian Conference will take place from 27-29 October 2017 at the University of Montreal. The conference organizers are Marie-Pierre Bousquet (Indigenous Studies Program, Department of Anthropology, UdeM) and Jimena Terraza (Institute of Cognitive Sciences, UQAM).

This international Conference is a meeting for researchers from diverse countries and disciplines who are interested in Algonquian peoples, a large group represented in Canada and the United States.

We invite everyone interested to send proposals in English, French or any Algonquian language, for papers in all areas of Algonquian research. Presentations will be 20 minutes long followed by a 10-minute question period. Abstracts should be no more than 300 words in length, excluding title and references.

The deadline to submit a proposal is September 1st 2017.

Abstracts must be submitted via email to  as a separate attachment (Word or PDF). In the email subject field enter “Algonquian Conference”. In the body of the email, include the following information:

  1. Title of the paper
  2. Name(s) of the presenter(s)
  3. Department or affiliation
  4. Student or non-student
  5. Email address for each speaker
  6. Postal address
  7. Your requirements for audio-visual equipment

Your proposal will be evaluated in 2-3 weeks. After acceptance, we recommend that you register as quickly as possible.
